What are the London Gazette and Commonwealth of Australia Gazette?The London Gazette and the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette are the main publications for the Executive arms of the United Kingdom and Australian Governments. In the British system of Government the Executive arm is represented by the monarchy. The Gazetted entries are announcements by the King of England. In the Australian system of Government, the Executive arm is represented by the Governor General, the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette is a printing publication of the Governer General's office. The Commonwealth of Australia Gazette began being published with Federation in 1901, however previous to Federation, the Colonies, now States, had been publishing their own Gazette's since the 1830's. Unitl recently, Australia used the British system of decorations and the British system for processing of awards. Subsequently in World War I, the award and citation would be announced in the London Gazette and then soon mirrored in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette.
